Early LCS Game 5 Complete

Brighton takes Game 5 in 14 innings, lead series 3-2.  You may be scratching your head if you are paying attention.  Website had Brighton already up 3-1 but looking back at the box score, Dharma in fact won Game 3.  The website incorrectly showed the text as Brighton winning.

No games were re-run or anything, just a manual mistake on my part.

NL Game 6 tonight.  In the AL, both owners watch the live broadcast and schedules didn't work.  We'll pick up Game 5 for them tomorrow (Sunday).

20 Resims - # 17 - Bostons Terrier

800 OPS Batters:
.847 – Rogers Hornsby
Honorable mention Al Rosen (.795)

Sub 3.75 ERA Starters
None

Sub 3.00 ERA Relievers
None

Best Value Draft Pick
Rd 28 – Stan Spence:  .260 / .315 / .305 – not bad for a last round pick!

Bust Draft Pick
Nothing I would deem a real bust, players ended up about where expected (which in and of itself might be a drafting problem).

#24 - 61 W - Colorado Greensox
#23 - 67 W - Downsouth Brews
#22 - 70 W - Tampa Bay Muffin Stuffers
#21 - 72 W - Helena Handbasket

Single Season Records Set This Year

SLG - .790 - Babe Ruth (SPB)
OPS - 1.246 - Babe Ruth (SPB)
HR - 79 - Babe Ruth (SPB)
R - 167 - Babe Ruth (SPB)
TB - 437 - Babe Ruth (SPB)

Ruth is also now 2nd in RBI with 164

Additional seasons were added to the Top 10 in doubles, triples, and extra base hits.

IP - 319 - Walter Johnson (CGS)
QS - 37 - Walter Johnson (CGS)
GS - 45 - Walter Johnson (CGS)
QS% - 88% - Pedro Martinez (DB)
H/9 - 5.7 - Russ Ford (HH)
G - 119 - Red Ryan (DC)

There were 5 new entrants into Games Played, and 4 of top 5 Games Stared seasons were from this year.  Owners are using their best pitchers more and more.

Additional seasons were added to the Top 10 in WHIP, RCERA, and CERA.

Full leader boards - both career and single season - will post this weekend.

PS - And it is an interesting argument with respect to Maddux vs Walter for the Cy Young.  By all accounts, Maddux was 'better' this year - better WHIP, RCERA, opponents batting average, etc - but Johnson started 10 more games and threw 85 more innings.  That is a heck of a lot, and may make up the gap.

20 Resims - # 18 - Carlisle "Mechanics"

800 OPS Batters:
.814 – Dan Brouthers

Sub 3.75 ERA Starters
3.75 – Mike Cuellar

Sub 3.00 ERA Relievers
2.43 – Mariano Rivera

Best Value Draft Pick
Rd 21 – Rick Aguilera (3.27 ERA, 1.14 ERA)

Bust Draft Pick
Rd 4 – Ed Delahanty.  He is not a bad player, but .684 OPS out of a corner outfielder in the early rounds is not going to cut it.

#24 - 61 W - Colorado Greensox
#23 - 67 W - Downsouth Brews
#22 - 70 W - Tampa Bay Muffin Stuffers

Biggest Pimp Job on Home Run

Tim Kurkjian has a fun article on baseball's unwritten rules.  This was linked.  Wow.

NL MVP

1) 63 Points-Mickey Mantle - (12, 1, 0 / 13 ballots)
1) 23 Points-Barry Bonds - (0, 7, 2 / 9 ballots)
1) 12 Points-Heavy Johnson - (1, 2, 1 / 4 ballots)
1) 4 Points-Honus Wagner - (0, 1, 1 / 2 ballots)
1) 4 Points-Jason Giambi - (0, 0, 4 / 4 ballots)
1) 4 Points-Duke Snider - (0, 1, 1 / 2 ballots)
1) 3 Points-Javy Lopez - (0, 1, 0 / 1 ballots)
1) 1 Points-Jimmie Foxx - (0, 0, 1 / 1 ballots)
1) 1 Points-Nap Lajoie - (0, 0, 1 / 1 ballots)
1) 1 Points-Stan Musial - (0, 1, 1 / 1 ballots)
1) 1 Points-Ken Griffey Jr. - (0, 1, 1 / 1 ballots)

The Commerce Comet for the win.  He didn't hit the century mark in RBI, but his combination of an extremely high OBP, defense, and overall extra base hit power impressed the owners quite a bit.

Mickey Mantle:
.350 / .455 / .572, 1.027 OPS, 44 2B, 1 3B, 27 HR, 125 R, 95 RBI, .395 ATB Value

Congrats Initech!

20 Resims - #19 - Washington Rain33

800 OPS Batters:
.908 – Fred Dunlap
.828 – Jim Gentile

Sub 3.75 ERA Starters
3.67 – Johan Santana

Sub 3.00 ERA Relievers
None

Best Value Draft Pick
Rd 24 – Chris Davis.  He really needs to be platooned more to be effective, but 34 HRs in 583 ABs has value

Bust Draft Pick
Rd 2 – Roger Clemens (10-14, 4.54 ERA)

#24 - 61 W - Colorado Greensox
#23 - 67 W - Downsouth Brews
#22 - 70 W - Tampa Bay Muffin Stuffers
#21 - 72 W - Helena Handbasket
#20 - 70 W - New York Mammoths
#19 - 75 W - Washington Rain33

LCS Game 3's Complete

http://www.alltimebaseballsim.net/lcs_series_ATBXVI.htm

The Beaters coast in a 6-2 win, while it takes 12 to get Dharma a win.

NL Cy Young

1) 40 Points-Greg Maddux - (6, 3, 1 / 10 ballots)
2) 37 Points-Walter Johnson - (6, 2, 1 / 9 ballots)
3) 21 Points-Addie Joss - (0, 5, 6 / 11 ballots)
4) 6 Points-Nels Potter - (0, 2, 0 / 2 ballots)
5) 5 Points-Tiny Bonham - (1, 0, 0 / 1 ballots)
6) 3 Points-Bill Swift - (0, 0, 3 / 3 ballots)
7) 3 Points-Harry Brecheen - (0, 1, 0 / 1 ballots)
8) 1 Points-Eddie Cicotte - (0, 0, 1 / 1 ballots)
9) 1 Points-Ron Guidry - (0, 0, 1 / 1 ballots)

In an incredibly tight vote, Greg Maddux narrowly bests Walter Johnson for the NL Cy Young Award.  The difference was a single ballot, we Johnson was left off, missing the opportunity for a 2nd place vote.  Keep in mind 13 owners submitted ballots, so Maddux was left three and Johnson one more.

Maddux:
12-9, 2.91 ERA, 235 IP, 184 H, 40 BB, 142 K, 0.95 WHIP, 2.37 RCERA, 4 CG, 2 ShO

Congrats Dharma!!

20 Resims - #20 - New York Mammoths

800 OPS Batters:
.972 – Lou Gehrig

Sub 3.75 ERA Starters
3.24 – Sandy Koufax
3.29 – Christy Mathewson
3.75 – Dennis Martinez

I have longed for this.  It is wonderful to see Koufax and Christy as good ATB pitchers.  Remember for next year though – this was without a DH and in a pitchers park.  Still, a sight for sore eyes.  Long live hitting pitchers!  Until next year, where we’ll have a DH and a non DH league.

Sub 3.00 ERA Relievers
2.98 – Craig Kimbrel

Best Value Draft Pick
Nothing of great value.  Kris Medlen was good at Rd 20, but so many relievers can be found late.

Bust Draft Pick
Rd 2 – Willie Mays.  Listen, 37 home runs is great, but your #2 pick can’t bat .231 with a .281 OBP.

#24 - 61 W - Colorado Greensox
#23 - 67 W - Downsouth Brews
#22 - 70 W - Tampa Bay Muffin Stuffers
#21 - 72 W - Helena Handbasket
#20 - 70 W - New York Mammoths

LCS Game 2s Complete

http://www.alltimebaseballsim.net/lcs_series_ATBXVI.htm

Spanish Harlem runs into a good night from Turkey Stearnes and Brighton comes back to win in extra innings.

AL Cy Young

1) 46 Points-Red Ryan - (9, 0, 1 / 10 ballots)
2) 30 Points-Jesse Tannehill - (2, 6, 2 / 10 ballots)
3) 17 Points-Pedro Martinez - (0, 4, 5 / 9 ballots)
4) 5 Points-Carl Hubbell - (0, 1, 2 / 3 ballots)
5) 5 Points-Bill Bernhard - (1, 0, 0 / 1 ballots)
6) 4 Points-Jimmy Key - (0, 1, 1 / 2 ballots)
6) 1 Points-Teddy Higuera - (0, 0, 1 / 1 ballots)

Red Ryan sweeps the AL Post Season Awards for pitchers, easily besting Jesse Tannehill for the Cy Young Award.  Some voters apparently had a difficult time voting for him to win both awards, with all but one naming him first on either the Reliever of the Year ballot or this Cy Young.

Red Ryan:
17-7, 1.79 ERA, 241.2 IP, 169 H, 36 BB, 82 K, 0.85 WHIP, 23 Sv, 1.74 RCERA

Congrats DC!

20 Resims - #21 - Helena Handbasket

Many owners, including myself, struggled with finding offense without a DH.  Joe was no exception.

800 OPS Batters:
None, though Babe Herman was close at .790

Sub 3.75 ERA Starters
3.37 – Fergie Jenkins
3.48 – Kevin Appier
3.57 – Eddie Cicotte

Sub 3.00 ERA Relievers
2.35 – BJ Ryan

Best Value Draft Pick
Rd 23 – Kevin Appier

Bust Draft Pick
Rd 5 – Russ Ford who was bad enough to be benched

#24 - 61 W - Colorado Greensox
#23 - 67 W - Downsouth Brews
#22 - 70 W - Tampa Bay Muffin Stuffers
#21 - 72 W - Helena Handbasket

Game 1 in the AL pits the Beater's Garland Braxton (12-3, 2.49) against the Fanclub's Mort Cooper (13-10, 3.54).

Over in the NL it will be the Shadows Joe Wood (15-12, 3.28) hoping his offense can muster some runs off of the great Greg Maddux (12-9, 2.91) who starts Game 1 for the Islanders.

Head on over to watch at 9:00 PM, here is the link.

20 Resims - #22 - Tampa Bay Muffin Stuffers

The great softball experiment failed for PJ but it sure was a fun ride along the way.  Lets put that 4.31 ERA in perspective too – the Stuffers yielded 70% unearned runs than the best team by that measure (Planet 10) and 30% more than the next worse (Washington).

800 OPS Batters:
.834 – Willie Wells
.811 – George Hall
.805 – Frank Tomas
Honorable mention to Sam Thompson (.793)

Sub 3.75 ERA Starters
None

Sub 3.00 ERA Relievers
None

Best Value Draft Pick
No standouts

Bust Draft Pick
Rd 5 – Brett Saberhagen (10-14, 1.40 WHIP)

LDS Game 7s Complete

http://www.alltimebaseballsim.net/division_series_ATBXVI.htm

Dharma and Brighton advance!

20 Resims - #24 - Colorado Green Sox

I hesitate to call these "Resims Lite" since many hours of work went into compiling, but there will definitely be a much less thorough write up for each team this year.

Five categories need a bit of explanation

  • Activity Level - how many lineups an owner submitted compared to average (7.7 lineups).  One thing I have always loved about ATB is that there is a great mix of hands off and hands on owners and it doesn't correlate with winning.
  • Raw Park OPS - Park factors expressed in terms of OPS.
  • OD Resim is the Opening Day Resims.  This is the average # of wins over the course of 20 seasons using opening day lineups.  This can help gauge whether or not your transactions helped or hurt your team's chances.
  • Bal Resim is the Balanced Resim.  20 seasons where ballparks where neutral and the schedule was completely balanced.  Each team played each other the exact # of times, including inter-league play
  • Max Potential is the Pythagorean Wins for a team based upon the best Runs For and best Runs against across the 20 resims (not OD or Bal).  It is the 1 in 1,000 chance - if everything broke right, this  is how many wins could your team have had.

Mixed review for Gary.  The pitching was definitely up to par but the team averaged less than 500 runs per year on offense, easily the worst in the league.

800 OPS Batters:
None

Sub 3.75 ERA Starters
3.18 – Walter Johnson

Sub 3.00 ERA Relievers
None

Best Value Draft Pick
Rd 19 – Jim Konstanty (3.35 ERA)

Bust Draft Pick
Rd 9 – Ralph Kiner (.196 AVG, .270 OBP)

LDS Game 6's Complete

And we need some Game 7's!  Sorry, got home later than expected last night and didn't run the games.

http://www.alltimebaseballsim.net/division_series_ATBXVI.htm

  • Kevin Brown comes off the DL and get's shelled, Dharma win 10-4
  • Harvey Haddix looks fine in a CG 6-2 win for the Generals

We can stream games tonight if anyone is interested.  Please let me know otherwise I will sim myself this evening and post the results.

AL Reliever of the Year

1) 40 Points-Red Ryan - (8, 0, 0 / 8 ballots)
2) 20 Points-Tim Burke - (0, 6, 2 / 8 ballots)
3) 20 Points-Tug McGraw - (1, 4, 3 / 8 ballots)
4) 17 Points-Craig Kimbrell - (2, 2, 1 / 5 ballots)
5) 10 Points-Eric Gagne - (1, 0, 5 / 6 ballots)
6) 1 Points-Jeff Russell - (0, 0, 1 / 1 ballots)

It comes as no surprise that DC's Red Ryan was named AL Reliever of the Year.  The real surprise is that he was left off 4 ballots in favor of Craig Kimbrell, Tug McGraw, and Eric Gagne.

Red Ryan:
17-7, 1.79 ERA, 241.2 IP, 169 H, 36 BB, 82 K, 0.85 WHP, 23 Sv, 1.74 RCERA

Congrats DC!

NL Reliever of the Year

Ballots are in and it is time to start revealing the results.  First up is the NL Reliever of the Year Award

1) 33 Points-Keith Foulke - (6, 1, 0 / 7 ballots)
2) 24 Points-Koji Uehera - (1, 6, 1 / 8 ballots)
3) 14 Points-Jonathan Papelbon - (2, 1, 1 / 4 ballots)
4) 10 Points-Ted Niedenfuer - (2, 0, 0 / 2 ballots)
5) 9 Points-Bobby Jenks - (1, 1, 1 / 3 ballots)
6) 7 Points-Tom Henke - (0, 2, 1 / 3 ballots)
7) 3 Points-Dick Hall - (0, 0, 3 / 3 ballots)
8) 3 Points-JJ Putz - (0, 1, 0 / 1 ballots)
9) 2 Points-Rafael Betancourt - (0, 0, 2 / 2 ballots)
10) 1 Points-Lindy McDaniel - (0, 0, 1 / 1 ballots)
11) 1 Points-Dennis Eckersley - (0, 0, 1 / 1 ballots)

Only two real contenders for this award but looking closer (ha) at the ballots it was no competition.  Keith Foulke (Shadows) was 1st billing on 6 ballots while Koji Uehera (Generals) was on just one.

Foulke:
7-9, 2.29 ERA, 125.2 IP, 101 H, 37 BB, 102 K, 1.10 WHIP, 43 Sv, 2.76 RCERA

Congrats Brighton!

Live Streaming of the ATB Playoffs Begins Tonight

Last year we re-introduced "live" streaming of the ATB playoffs and we'll do the same this season.  The software is called AnyMeeting and it simply lets me broadcast my desktop to the attendees.  There is audio as well for those that want to discuss the action, though, that is optional.  There is also a messaging component that works well.

Below is the link - please join us at 9 PM for Game 1 of the LDS!  Two games are on the docket tonight:

  • The DC Chips (Steve C) head into the heart of baseball greatness, facing off against the heavily favored Spanish Harlem Pinata Beaters (Justin P).  Dutch Leonard (14-11, 3.82) takes the mound for the visitors and squares off against Cy Young hopeful Garland Braxton (12-3, 2.49).  Tale of the Tape
  • Our second game features a pair of 15-game winners as Joe Wood (15-12) opens the series for Brighton (Dave K) against the Little General's Kevin Millwood (15-9, 3.37).  The Generals are piloted by Mike S.  Tale of the Tape

Division Series Page Up

Works best in any browser other than Chrome, don't know why.  Irritating since I prefer Chrome.

http://www.alltimebaseballsim.net/division_series_ATBXVI.htm

Includes probable starters and 'tale of the tape'.  When we get close and throughout the playoffs, this is where stats, box scores, and the Broadcast Schedule will be housed.  Last years live broadcast, along with managerial decisions made by owners, was a success.  Will repeat that this year if owners are willing.

Justin P and I are in, please post here or send me an email if you would like to take control of your team on some select nights.

Record Setting Ruth

Babe Ruth (SPB) is in the process of setting several new ATB records:
  • HR:  He is already at 76, with the record set at 72 last year by Mark McGwire (John McDonald Fanclub)
  • SLG:  Part and parcel of so many long balls is a a great slugging percentage.  Ruth is at .796 with all time record set in ATB VI when Barry Bonds (Discordia Low Men) slugged .751.
  • R:  His OBP is also great which means he has a chance to score a lot of runs.  The all time record is 158 set by the same Barry Bonds as above.  He is currently at 157 with 8 games left.
  • RC:  Currently at 201.8, all time record 202 by Babe Ruth (Lima de Equipo) in ATB X
  • OPS:  Currently at 1.252 with all time record at 1.223 with Bonds in ATB VI
  • TB:  Currently at 437 with all time record at 437, set by Ruth in ATB VIII (St Louis Perfectos)
  • EBH:  Currently at 112 with all time record of 121 set last year by Turkey Stearnes (Manetheren Red Eagles)
His home park certainly favors lefties (107 / 100 / 140 / 130) but the American League as a whole doesn't (102 / 101 / 119 / 85).  Regardless, he is having a season for the ages.
