All Time Great Resim - The Gossamers Dethroned
OK! 100 sims for another quick All Time Greatest ATB team competition. I eliminated the 'worst' 4 teams from our previous ATG competition and replaced them with the top 4 from ATB 16.
Eliminated
ATB 08 Van Nest Phighting Philbens (Jeff B)
ATB 11 Windy City Potato Pickers (Lou P)
ATB 12 Helena Handbaseket (Joe T)
ATB 15 John McDonald Fanclub (Joe V)
New Entrants
ATB 16 Spanish Harlem Pinata Beaters
ATB 16 John McDonald Fanclub
ATB 16 Brighton Shadows
ATB 16 Dos Equis Interesting Men
After 100 resims (regular season only), here are the results:
It may not seem like much, but over the course of 100 seasons 0.8 wins and 8 runs is a clear victory for the Pinata Beaters, who have officially dethroned the Gold Country Gossamers as the best ATB team of all time. Well, almost officially. A few years ago I ran a much larger competition - season by season with playoffs - to crown a champion. That takes some time and have never repeated it. Since then, i have run quick "100 resims" and simply taken the average results of the regular season.
For now, Justin is the well deserved champion, but one day we'll have to see how his team fares in the post season of 100 sims to crown an ultimate champ.
Congrats JP!

Data for 20 Resims
Here are two worksheets for your perusal.
Standings Summary
Individual Player Detail
Good ride gents! I still will be updating season records, player cards, etc, but for all intents and purposes this season is now over. Thanks for playing!
I will leave you with this - top to bottom the NL was the superior league. Looking at the balanced resims, only 1 of the 12 AL teams improved their record, and that was by a margin of just 1 game. The rest of the league lost an average of 2.8 games. A little consolation for those NL'ers with seemingly poor records compared to their AL counterparts.

800 OPS Batters:
.808 – Carlos Delgado
.803 – Nap Lajoie
Sub 3.75 ERA Starters
3.35 – Kevin Millwood
If you were to tell me at the start of the season that Carlos Delgado and Kevin Millwood where a team’s best hitter and pitcher, I would have told that team would be outside the top 10.
Sub 3.00 ERA Relievers
2.19 – Koji Uehera
2.91 – Paul Wilson
Best Value Draft Pick
Paul Wilson at 19. I would also like to see how John Reilly (Rd 22, .800 OPS in 200 AB a season) would perform in a full season.
Bust Draft Pick
Rd 5 – Harvey Haddix (4.43 ERA)

World Series Game 6 and 7 Complete
Spanish Harlem wins!
http://www.alltimebaseballsim.net/world_series_ATBXVI.htm
Series MVP? Ruth had 3 HR, 9 RBI and a .485 on-base thanks to 12 walks. But he killed so many rallies with strikeouts and stranding runners (DMB doesn't track LOB unfortunately), and batted a putrid .200
Teddy Higuera (2 GS, 14 IP, 3.21 ERA) was very good too, but in Game 4 did yield 4 earned runs in 7 innings.
My money is on Wade Boggs, who seemed to be in on every darn key rally the Beaters put together. His final line: .423 AVG, .545 OBP and 10 runs scored.
Congrats JP! And congrats JB on a terrific rookie campaign.
There will be a few more 20 resim posts and some website updates over the next week or two, but for all intents and purposes, this ends ATB 16. Have a great summer and see you again in January!

.907 – Tip O’Neill
.887 – Jason Giambi
.852 – Reggie Jackson
.830 – Bill Dickey
Honorable mention to Jim Thome at .799
This was a truly great offense, one that average a team OPS of .800, a superb mark considering no DH.
Sub 3.75 ERA Starters
None
The offense came at a cost though. The idea of a great pen and serviceable starters didn’t pan out – the starters weren’t serviceable, averaging a 5.09 ERA
Sub 3.00 ERA Relievers
None
Best Value Draft Pick
No standouts
Bust Draft Pick
Rd 5 – Rod Carew. He is a legitimate player going forward, but .289 / .323 / .365 in a hitter’s park isn’t enough for a Top 5 pick.

ALCS Game 7 Complete
It was a fitting end for an unforgettable series between the Spanish Harlem Pinata Beaters and John McDonald Fanclub. Despite all wishes, someone had to be declared winner, and on this night anyway, it was Spanish Harlem, 5-4.
Fanclub took a 2 run lead into the ninth thanks in part to a Turkey Stearnes rope of a 2-run home run and a 4-hit night form Cupid Childs. It just wasn't enough though, since game 6 hero Eric Gagne, struggled as much as he was brilliant the night before.
Twenty four hours earlier the closer struck out Wade Boggs, Babe Ruth, and Orater Shaffer without any difficulty to finish the game and send the series to a Game 7. In an eerily comparable situation this night, he started the bottom of 9th in a similar fashion easily dispatching Ruth for the first out. After a brutal jinx from yours truly, Gagne gave up 4 consecutive singles to first tie the game, and then lose the game, on a Biz Mackey series ending, world series advancing single. Mackey, who threw out two Fanclub runners in the 9th and got on base at a .484 clip in the series, was the well deserved hero.
World Series starts tomorrow night at 9 PM.

Come out and watch game 7 of the ALCS, tonight at 9 PM. It has been an incredible match-up so far, and very fitting to have a game 7.
On short rest, ace Mort Cooper takes the hill for the "underdog" Fanclub, after a good regular season (13-10, 3.54), the righty has stepped up his game a bit, holding Spanish Harlem to 4 earned runs in 11.1 innings.
He has quite a task ahead of him tonight though, lead by Babe Ruth who has clubbed 3 home runs in the series, the Beaters have 6 lefties in the lineup tonight.
Countering Cooper is #3 starter Teddy Higuera (13-5, 3.45 in the regular season). "The Mexican" was quite good in his only start of the series, lasting into the 9th yielding just 2 runs on 5 hits, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts.
Fanclub's lineup has struggled in the series, batting just .252 / .282 / .323. However, Turkey Stearnes is heating up, hitting in three straight and homering last night. A hot Stearnes can be the difference maker.

One great SP would have gone a long way to making this team top 10. The offense was quite good, but perhaps a starter in Rd 4 instead of Mike Trout (.238 / .330 / .373) would have been a better option.

ALCS Game 5 Complete
In a game much closer than the final 10-2 score indicates, Spanish Harlem wins behind a great start from Garland Braxton and 3 hits each from Buck Leonard and Biz Mackey.

Islanders win!!
Tim Lincecum turned in a great start, winning 3-1. All 3 Dharma runs came in the 6th when Goose Goslin, Joe Jackson, and Duke Snider singled; Todd Helton followed with and RBI double and that was all Lincecum needed.
Dharma Moves on to the ATB World Series. The ALCS is a bit behind with that series knotted at 2-2.

I don’t know that Walker is a 1st round pick, but there are very few folks that slug close to .500.

Best Value Draft Pick
Don’t like any in this spot, but wanted to mention Robb Nen in Rd 12 with a 3.22 ERA
Bust Draft Pick
None, but Adrian Beltre was perilously close in Rd 4. His .709 OPS is acceptable, but not his .289 OBP.
