How Good Is Otter Valley?

With 4 seasons of 90 or more wins, and one amazing 109 victory campaign, Jason B is no stranger to success in ATB.  However, Jason's squads were never quite good enough to bring home the overall title.  At the risk of a full fledged jinx, ATB 19 may be an entirely different story.

After 9 seasons running the John McDonald Fanclub, this year of overall life change also brought change to the classic JMF moniker - the franchise moved to Otter Valley.  The reasons are unclear, but the results are crystal - with the best run differential in the game with a projected win total of 123, Otter Valley is the best team in ATB.

How is he accomplishing this?  By bludgeoning opponents into submission.  The Otters lead ATB in all the slash categories, plus OPS, Runs Created, Total Bases, and Runs Scored Per Game.   How's this for a lineup

1) .284 / .355 / .321 - Tris Speaker, CF
2) .287 / .321 / .412 - Lip Ike, LF
3) .371 / .424 / .567 - Fred Dunlap, 2B
4) .414 / .468 / .596 - Harry Heilmann, DH
5) .386 / .422 / .436 - Buck Leonard, 1B
6) .291 / .361 / .400 - Ross Youngs, RF
7) .353 / .397 / .549 - Deacon White, C
8) .283 / .353 / .500 - Howard Johnson, 3B
9) .323 / .337 / .376 - Dobie Moore, SS

Their bench is impressive as well, with Charley Jones (.766 OPS), Al Kaline (.767), and Buddy Bell all putting up solid numbers.

I know what you are thinking, many of these players are experiencing career year type of results and there will likely be regression to the mean.  Perhaps this is true, but also consider the park factors of 1918 Dunn Field - 110 / 128 / 126 / 40.  With a total of only 8 team home runs all year, this team was built for high average and in-park extra base hits and so far it is working.

123 wins?  No, but this team is legitimately impressive and could challenge the Franchise Record of 109 wins.

ALCS Game 7 Complete

It was a fitting end for an unforgettable series between the Spanish Harlem Pinata Beaters and John McDonald Fanclub.  Despite all wishes, someone had to be declared winner, and on this night anyway, it was Spanish Harlem, 5-4.

Fanclub took a 2 run lead into the ninth thanks in part to a Turkey Stearnes rope of a 2-run home run and a 4-hit night form Cupid Childs.  It just wasn't enough though, since game 6 hero Eric Gagne, struggled as much as he was brilliant the night before.

Twenty four hours earlier the closer struck out Wade Boggs, Babe Ruth, and Orater Shaffer without any difficulty to finish the game and send the series to a Game 7.  In an eerily comparable situation this night, he started the bottom of 9th in a similar fashion easily dispatching Ruth for the first out.  After a brutal jinx from yours truly, Gagne gave up 4 consecutive singles to first tie the game, and then lose the game, on a Biz Mackey series ending, world series advancing single.  Mackey, who threw out two Fanclub runners in the 9th and got on base at a .484 clip in the series, was the well deserved hero.

World Series starts tomorrow night at 9 PM.
