Congratulations to Allen C and the Downsouth Brews - they no longer hold the all time single season loss record.
Planet 10 and Ivar A now hold the dubious distinction with some potential room to spare. They currently sit at 44-116 with two games left, here's to hoping they distances themselves from the Brews.
Additional Note: Typically a very good team will outperform their Pythagorean Record, and poor teams usually under-perform. There is a chance that Planet 10 can beat the loss record with their Pythag as well, which is currently 46-114 thanks to a -275 run differential. This would be remarkable and something we should all root for.

Longest Running Franchise Reterns
The DC Chips return for their 6th consecutive season. Other owners have been in the league longer but no other owner has kept the same team name for more time.
Interestingly, the same year the Chips entered the league so did John McDonald Fanclub, Willets Point "Mechanics", Helena Handbasket, and Otherton Fishbiscuits. They too have kept the same team name throughout.
Ivar A has had Planet 10 as the team City for 7 years, but has change the team Nickname.

Even with 7 batters selected in the first 10 Rounds of the draft, Planet 10 was a pitching focused team. Their #1 pick Larry Walker faltered a bit, garnering just a .754 OPS. With Ex defense this is acceptable for a Round 2 or 3 selection, but can’t be justified in Rd 1 in a corner outfielder. Planet was in a tough position with the last pick of the draft, but I think Stan Musial, John McGraw, King Kelly, or even Dan Brouthers may have served this specific team a bit better.
Aside from George Brett in Rd 2, the rest of the lineup was shaky too. With a team OBP of just .320, 2nd worst in the league, their runs scored was near the bottom the league leaders.
Still, thanks to above average pitching, Planet made the playoffs seven times, reach 90 wins, and had a max win potential of 94. Cannonball Titcomb, with another great season, has proven himself an ace lelvel starter. This has to be a point of particular pride for Ivar, as he personally found Cannonball a year ago. Behind the team ace, Kevin Brown and the bullpen had great resims and led the team to the second best strikeout rate in the game.

ATB XIII Cy Young Award
Unlike reliever of the year, the Cy Young award was never in doubt. Greg Maddux posted the best season we've seen in thirteen years of ATB and swept all first place votes. He set a new record for regular season wins and even received a vote for the MVP. His final line is memorable: 23-3, 1.92 ERA, 262 IP, 160 K, 1.06 WHIP, 2.20 ERA.
No slouch, Pedro Martinez swept all second place votes and under normal circumstances could have won the award himself: 22-7, 2.63 ERA, 260 IP, 268 K, 1.00 WHIP, 2.44 ERA

National Division Enjoys Tight Race
The National Division is shaping up to be a season long battle for their two open playoff slots. At press time, 5 of the 6 teams were within 3.5 games of each other for the division crown. The Wild Card was closer yet, with 4 teams within 2.5 games of each other.
The current division leader is Helena Handbasket, With a 19-12 record and a sporty +32 run differntial, second best in all of ATB, Joe T’s squad has been getting great results from centerfielder Oscar Charleston (.810 OPS) and third basemen Adrian Beltre (.867 OPS). However, the team is just 9th in overall runs scored and relies on a deep pitching staff.
Currently 3rd in team ERA (3.42), the Handbaskets have enjoyed success from both their starters and the bullpen. Juan Marichal is the team’s best starter, compiling a deceiving 3.89 ERA but giving up just 35 hits in 42 innings of work. Dean Chance, a spot starter, has been incredible yielding just two runs across his three starts.
While in third place, the Newark Slam Dumps make a claim the division’s best. Their +42 run differential is the best in ATB and their pitching staff has had an April of legends. Randy Johnson leads the way with a 5 wins anda 1.20 ERA while Bill Bernhard, Hank Aguirre, and Ben Sheets add 6 wins and a combined ERA less than three to the mix. Their bullpen is led by Tiny Bonham (2.35 ERA) and Rob Muprhy (2.19 ERA)
Not to be left out of the conversation, the Londonderry Machine have won four in a row and 6 of 7, climbing into second place with a 18-13 record despite a net-zero run differential. All eyes have been pointing directly at the new second basemen Ross Barnes. Batting .339 / .410 / .460, Barnes has proven to be a valuable 1st round draft choice and currently leads his team in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, doubles, triples, OPS, and Runs Created.
Perhaps a tier below these “Big 3” are the Willets Point “Mechanics” and Planet 10. The former has managed a 17-14 record despite being outscored by 41 runs (frankly, this is amazing), while Planet 10 is now at .500 after recently losing 6 of 10 contents.
Looking at each team’s head to head records only muddles the picture even further. Follow this if you can:
Helena is one game over .500 versus Plant 10, but one game under .500 combined versus the Mechanics and Slam Dumps. The Slam Dumps are one game over .500 both versus the Machine and combined against Planet 10 and Helena. What might have been. Ivar selected a solid squad for most of the draft but in the end to many of the middle round picks underperformed considerably. Think about it – three well above average league starters plus very good core lineup that began with Larry Walker and Jason Giambi. Perhaps not 90+ win potential, but certainly above .500 and nowhere near as bad as the 63 wins Planet 10 accumulated during the regular season.
So what went wrong? The offense. Goose Goslin (.554 OPS) may be the worse second round pick of all time and all batters taken after the 8th round averaged a .636 OPS.
Javy Lopez deserves mention as a power hitting catcher averaging 28 home runs per season.
