Despite ignoring it during my draft, I have been infatuated with defense lately. Here's a grid of the defensive prowess of each team. Color coding should be obvious.
As can be expected, owners have placed a premium on defense up the middle. However, one suprise is the obvious lack of care for great defending third basemen. Here is a quick chart depicting the percentage of Vg or Ex defenders at each position.
72% - 2B, SS, CF
67% - LF
61% - 1B, Catcher Arm
56% - RF
39% - 3B
I think thats more a case of there being very few good hitting/great fielding third basemen. These days we place such a premium on offensive production at the hot corner that the glove is often an afterthought.
