Too bad the VS LCS is not in Shea circa 1969 because it has two reincarnations of the Miracle Mets.
With identical 88-74 records, DCC and HH snuck in to the playoffs as wild cards with a combined record of 176-148 and winning percentage of .543. By contrast, the two division winners won 30 more games (206-118) and had a winning percentage nearly ten points higher (.635). By my calculation, DCC and HH combined for a pedestrian run differential of +43 (1483 RF, 1440 RA) whereas the top two seeds were a fantastic +346 (1646 RF, 1300 RA).
Thus, no surprise that WMB had an 8-4 record vs. DCC during the season and JMF was 9-3 vs. HH. Yet this combined 17-7 record was turned upside down to 2-8 in the division series.
So, Joe, good luck in the LCS. It should be close. I see that DCC and HH essentially split during the regular season (7-5)...which is just perfect.
Steve
