6/30 - Nap Lajoie (KD) rips 5 hits*
* This box score underlies the importance of the walk and stolen base. John McGraw went hitless in this game against the Brews, but his squad won thanks in large part to his ability to be patient and reek havoc on the base baths.
- McGraw led off the game with a walk, stole second, and later scored, helping to put his team up 2-0
- In third he walked, stole second and third, then scored another run.
- In the 4th, up 4-0, the Machine broke the game open thanks to the walk and stolen base. What a fun inning too:
- Tommy Holmes led off the inning with a walk
- A few batters later the Machine had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.
- McGraw came to bat and fought back from an 0-2 count, walking again and loading the bases.
- Then catcher Joe Mauer drove in the Machine's 5th run with a sac fly leaving runners at teh corners with 2 outs. At this point in the game, down 5 runs in the 4th, the Brews thanks Joe D, Double X, and Roger Maris were by no means out of it.
- However, the next play was a double steal, with Ripken taking home and McGraw second. 6-0.
- Ross Barnes followed with a single, allowing McGraw who just advanced on a walk and stolen base, to score. 7-0.
