Multiple 40 HR Seasons On One Team

The Fish Biscuits posed me a question over email. Thought the answer might interest a few.

Q: Lou, do the old stats exist to see how often an Atb team has had 2 40 homer guys which OFB should finish with

A: We do!

If you go to the history tab on the ATB home page there is a file with the compiled historical ATB stats by season going back to ATB VI I believe.

I took the liberty of trying to answer this great question :). It is a somewhat rare feat, but not completely out of the ordinary.
  • 18 Times teams have had two or more 35 HR+ players. Four teams had three players with this many home runs.
  • But only 7 teams have had two 40 HR+ players, and incredibly there was a team with 3
  • And the feat of the Slammers in ATB VIII will never be duplicated – two 60 HR players!
  • 130 HR – St Louis Slammers (ATB VIII): Mark McGwire (67), Babe Ruth (60)
  • 122 HR – Phoenix Coyotes (ATB VI): Mark McGwire (42), Hank Aaron (40), Frank Robinson (40)
  • 103 HR – Art Vandalay (ATB IX): Mark McGwire (57), Mike Schmidt (46)
  • 96 HR – Absurdville Madness (ATB X): Willie Stargell (50), Hank Greenberg (46)
  • 92 HR – Franklin Lakes Pillpoppers (ATB VIII): Reggie Jackson (49), Dick Allen (43)
  • 85 HR – Duke Street Kings (ATB XI): Mickey Mantle (44), Ralph Kiner (41)
  • 85 HR – Lake Hopatcong Marauders (ATB VIII): Frank Robinson (43), Willie McCovey (42)
