Gossamers bust out for 12; series moves to the Country

Gold Country Gossamers @ Sparta Hoplites

On the brink of elimination the Gold Country Gossamers showed why they were a 94 win team during the regular season, winning when they had and erupting for 12 runs and 13 hits.  Edgar Martinez went 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI while Bill Dahlen had 2 triples and added 5 RBI of his own.

For the Hoplites, Starter Kevin Brown was rocked for 4 runs and 2 hits, and most of the pen fared little better with Joel Pieneiro, Stan Coveleski, and Mort Cooper combined to give up 8 runs in 4 innings.

The series heads back to Gold Country for game 6.  The Hoplites will try to close it out with Bobby Shantz (10-9, 4.40) while the Gossamers counter with Tex Hughson (17-10, 2.90).

With an unfavorable matchup, the Hoplites are undoubtedly regretting the blown save in game Game 2.
