ALDS Game 4
Gold Country Gossamers @ Sparta Hoplites
One thing is abundantly clear - these two teams are evenly matched. In four games the Hoplites have outscored the Gossamers by a measly 4 runs in all, and after a strong performance by Teddy Higuera, take a commanding 3-1 series lead. Higuera, along with Gossamer starter Preacher Roe, did their jobs effectively combining for 15 innings and 2 runs given up.
The game came down to timely hitting, the difference being a poor performance by Gossamer reliever Tom Henke. Henke pitched to 3 batters to open the 8th and couldn't record an out. Leaving with the bases loaded,
Henke was ultimately tagged with the loss when left handed specialist Buddy Groom allowed a two-run single off the bat of Cy Seymor.
After a surprise start by Roe this afternoon, the Gossamers turn to Carl Hubbell (17-6, 2.80) to keep their season alive. The Hoplites counter with their ace Kevin Brown (15-9, 3.28) in what promises to be another nail biter.
Starter Lines:
Roe(GCG)::::: 7.0 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Higuera (SH): 8.0 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K
