At the end of each season owners may submit a new lineup that is used in the 20 Resim competition. This competition is purely for speculation and is used as a gauge to determine who had the best draft. The true ATB champion remains the World Series winner.
20 seasons are automatically simulated and compiled. No lineup changes are allowed and injuries are turned off. Through a formula that considers Win-Loss record, Playoff Appearances, and Pythagorean Record the teams are ranked in order from worst to first.
Special thanks to Justin B who provided the formula and methodology behind the raw park OPS values, which provides a new way to interpret park factors.
After a year long break from ATB, owner Jay H was back for another shot at the playoffs. It didn’t pan out so well however, as the Snow ended in the bottom ¼ in both Runs For and Runs Against. Still, they were quantifiably better then the Brews (about 4 games and 40 runs better) which at least proves they weren’t the very worst team in the league.
There were some definite positives, especially the right side of the infield that featured Rogers Hornsby (see below) and Albert Pujols. The first basemen isn’t as good as we originally thought, but 23 home runs, 25 doubles, and 96 RBI per season is valuable. Mike Piazza is a good hitting catcher (.732 OPS) but not 4th round value.
The top end of the rotation featuring Russ Ford and Cliff Lee were about average, but the back end, especially some guy named Danny McFayden (1.69 WHIP), struggled. The bullpen had holes as well, though Tug McGraw (below) was very good and Willie Hernandez (107 IP, 1.26 WHIP) held his own.
800 OPS Batters:
Rogers Hornsby: .805 OPS, .305 / .363 / .442
Sub 4.00 ERA Starters
Cliff Lee: 3.94 ERA, 1.34 WHIP
Sub 3.25 ERA Relievers
Tug McGraw: 65 IP, 3.18 ERA, 34 Sv
Best Value Draft Pick
19th Rd: Bobby Veach (.292 AVG, .716 OPS in platoon 435 PA)
Bust Draft Pick
Rd 6: Jacoby Elsbury. Awesome start to regular season didn’t pan out; reisims showed .289 OBP and .339 SLG.
Tally
#24 - Downsouth Brews
#23 - Leesburg Snow
