All Star Races - Ace's

Choosing All Star pitchers is much different than choosing batting positions.  There are 4 to 5 starting pitcher roles on each team, and each of the 5 are "eligible" for making an All Star team.  Listing the top 5 pitchers in the AL or NL is simply not a lot of fun, so for our purposes we'll expand the criteria and look at the pitchers in each league that would be competing for a fictional 3 man rotation.

American League
By may calculations there are four pitchers vying for the 'ace' role in the American League.  Carl Hubbell (Wildlings) has the best winning percentage and best RCERA, but also has by far the worst ERA of the group.  Christy Mathewson (Beau Brummels) has the worst winning percentage but his actual ERA is almost exactly  in line with his underlying performance.  Hubbell's teammate Cy Blanton averages a 2.31 ERA/RCERA combo, 2nd best to Greg Maddux (Hoplites) who is averaging 2.25.

It's a toss-up.  I rate Maddux the best per inning, bun't Blanton's extra two starts and 11 more innings pitched is not immaterial.

National League
If you would have told me that neither an undefeated pitcher nor Pedro Martinez pitching successful in a 4-man rotation would the the ace of the NL I would have chuckled at the premise.  But here we are in June and Ed Siever (Pinata Beaters) has clearly had the best start of the season, the the league in Wins, ERA, and RCERA.  Martinez (Fish Biscuits) is second best with Danny Haren (Shadows) enjoying another fine season at third best.  Randy Jones is on this  list because of his 10 wins, but he's not the same company.
