We continue to avoid divisional races!
This week, the biggest news out of the NL was the poor showing from the DC Chips. Dropping 11 of 14, Steve's team dropped to a rather large 6.5 deficit in the AL West and worse still, are 2 games off the wild card pace now that the Miners have seemingly halted a temporary slide.
"Led" by the faltering Ty Cobb and Joey Votto, DC batted .236 / .298 / .357 on the week, losing series with Otherton, Washington, Dos Equis, New York, and Carlisle, at one point losing 8 of 9. While no starter was particularly effective, new pick-up Andy Messersmith was a disaster. In 3 starts he lasted just 13 innings giving up 21 hits to the tune of an 8.31 ERA
Results were basically status quo in the National League with the rich getting richer and everyone else slowing fading out of the divisional races.
Dharma had the best week and it's about time we gave some love to 2013 Jose Fernandez. A new player, Fernandez was a 6th round draft choice by Justin and most thought it was several rounds to early for a gamble on a high end starting pitcher. Most were obviously wrong as Fernandez has pitched quite well: 5-1, 2.81 ERA, 2.16 RCERA. He and Greg Maddux (2.68 ERA) promise to be a fine 1-2 punch should the Islanders make the post-season.
