The Willets Point "Mechanics", finally firing on all cylinders after several months of mediocrity, were dealt an untimely blow to their playoff changes with start starter Willie Mitchell going down for the 5th time this season with an injury.
To date, Mitchell was 8-5 with a 2.97 ERA in 94 innings, giving up just 74 hits. In his last start he was injured in the 6th innings after giving up 2 runs, this time for 15 days. Earlier the season he was also injured:
April 6 for 5 days
May 2 for 15 days
May 21 for 5 days
June 10 for 5 days
All in all, that's 5 injuries and a total of 45 days lost for one of the best pitchers in the American League.
