  2. All of my four starters are at least 1.4 runs below the composite of the Daffiness boys in the 79 SIMS. I would therefore thing that either my pitchers have been unlucky, or the competitions batting artillery has been far above average. I feel pretty confident that this should adjust itself in the days ahead. Then again, this is my first year managing, so I know squat.

  3. One more comment - My first three starters are ranked in the top 48 pitchers in 79 Resims, and all five are within the top 70. In my mind, that should indicate that my staff should be at least decent. None of the starters have a 79 Sims ERA over 3.48. So an ERA of 5.22 would seem to me to be an anomaly. If I am incorrect, I would appreciate one of the veterans to indicate where I am mistaken. I don't think that my club is much of a threat to go for the gold, so I can't see that you would be giving away insiders information.

  4. - absolutely right. Too early to tell anything really.
    - 79 resims were a 56 team environment. I generally expect ERA's to be worse in ATB XIV then they were in the resim. There were some really bad every day hitters in the 79 resims
    - defense is important too. In some of the resims, there were great defenses behind a pitcher they made them look better than they were. Roger Clemens 1997 had an average infield of Vg/91 and outfield of Vg/96.
    - Finally park factor. In the resims all parks were neutral. Your Choice of 1921 Ebbets Field favors hitters - 108/106 for singles means the park gives up 8% more singles to lefties and 7% more to righties. That adds up.

In summary, all things being equal I do expect that the pitchers would have the same general rank in the resims that they do in ATB. But then factoring in defense, park, strength of schedule (you have played a lot of good teams early) and it becomes very difficult to peg a final ERA.

    1. Oh, randomness is a killer too. Clemens averaged a 4.20 ERA in the 100 resims (16 team league by the way, I would bet his ATB ERA is closer to 4.20 than his 79 resim ERA of 3.48), but his best/worst ERA's in the 100 resims were 3.04 and 5.98.

Sometimes you just get unlucky. Just ask Brian - the great George Herman batted .255 for him last year!

    2. Thanks, Lou for the input. Every little bit of information increases the learning curve:)
