The problem with only simming 1 playoff day per real life day is that there is no pause between series to give me ample time for an LCS preview. I do have time though, for a few "key points to watch".
San Diego Puff vs Dumai's Wells Oath Binders
- Sherry Magee (SDP) is out for the series with injury. During the regular season he batted .269 / .341 / .370, solid but not spectacular. However, he was key cog in the lineup vs lefty starters (.383 OBP, .395 SLG). His bat will be missed against Harry Brecheen and Noodles Hahn.
- The Oathbinders are without Stan Musial (.313 / .351 / .510 and a .900 OPS vs righties), John Olerud (.301 / .371 / .415) and Bruce Sutter (1.77 ERA). Olerud can be replaced in a platoon by Ray Grimes (.377 OBP vs Lefties) and Phil Caveretta (.370 OBP vs Righties) but Sutter and Musial are to irreplaceable.
- Head to head this season, the Puff won of 10 of 18 contests
- The Oathbinders rotation is rested and if necessary, Cy Young hopeful Babe Adams can throw 3 times if needed.
- It appears the Puff aren't that far off their normal rotation, set to start Game 1 with their #2 starter Cliff Melton.
- Prediction: extremely close series. On paper without injuries the Oathbinders "should" win, but now it's a toss up. In a reverse jinx attempt, I'll go with the Puff in 7.
DC Chips vs Sonoran Black Diamonds
- It is not exaggerating one bit to say without Lady Baldwin, the Black Diamonds would have been bounced from the playoffs in round 1. He started 3 times and won each of them, pitching brilliantly. Against DC however, he can only pitch twice.
- the DC rotation is setup fine however, and they've all pitched very well in Round 1. As a team, their ERA is 3.21.
- Injury wise, Sonoran is down their back up catcher Bob O'Farrell. A good defender, O'Farrell had a terrible season with the stick batting .147 / .258 / .160
- DC fought through several round 1 injuries, but are completely healthy now.
- Head to Head this season DC went 10-8 against Sonoran.
- Prediction: Another toss up, though I think DC has a slight advantage with Baldwin set for 2 games instead of 3. DC in 7.
Good luck1
