In a pitchers duel, the Oathbinders take game 1 in large part thanks to Stan Musial, who in his first game back from injury, homers and starts a ninth in rally to break a 1-1 tie. With the score tied, the Black Diamonds stuck with setup man Joe Grzenda to start the ninth, but he gave up back to back singles to Musial and George Brett before yielding to stud closer of the year, Cla Meredith. Meredith recorded one out, but gave up a single to Reggie Smith to end the game 2-1.
