Slugging first basemen kept the series alive for John McDonald fanclub, blasting both the game tying and game winning home runs against the Hoplites. Sparta still owns a 3-1 series lead, but it still must have been satisfying to hand the famed Bobby Jenks a loss.
In 56 innings, the right handed reliever gave up just 1 earned run all season long but through just one pitch this afternoon. With no one on and no one out, Jenks started the bottom of the 10th and through a belt high fastball that McGwire drilled over the left field wall.
Lost in the madness is a great start by lefty Andy Pettitte who shut down the Hoplites with his team on the brink of a sweep.
