Trying something new. DMB has a play by play feature that allows us to "watch" a game as it unfolds. I had a blast watching the first game of the All Star Series (3 game set) I thought I would share.
Hopefully, this has some interest. If not, let me know and I will never do it again! In the back of my mind I have dreams of "broadcasting" the world series in this manner, but, I conceded I am getting ahead of myself just a bit.
Here are the key or just plain old interesting play by play events of Game 1. Oh, to wet your appetite - it was an 11 inning affair with 11 runs scored after the 8th inning.

June Player of the Month
The Duke Street Kings didn't miss John Wetteland all that much in June, not with Bobby Shantz (1952) dominating hitters to the tune of a 1.80 ERA over 45 innings of work. He walked 11, struck out 27, and went undefeated in 6 starts with four wins. He yielded just 33 hits.
Ted Williams (1941) captured Week 5 Batter of the Week honors for the La Chapelle-aux-Saints Neanderthals and followed up with a Player of the Month Award. In June he batted an incredible .398 / 500 / .699 with 9 HR, 24 R, 26 RBI, and 32.3 RC

Wetteland was inconsistent all year long and was responsible for 5 losses in 16 games. On the other hand, he was lights out in his last three appearances and if you take away a horrible outing on May 29, he turned in a 2.20 ERA from May 2 trhough his release.
After his release, the division rival Willets Point "Mechanics" took a flyer on him and it paid off. In June, his stats:

Week 6 Players of the Week
Goose Goslin (1928 version) has been one of the most underrated players in ATB this year. Mired on the Otherton Fishbiscuits, 20.5 games out of first place, Goslin has been solid all year long. In Week 6, he batted .460 / .471 / .740 with 2 HR, 10 R, and 11 RBI to win Batter of the Week honors.
Jesse Tannehill (1902) on the other hand, has been great all season long for the La Chapelle-aux-Saints Neanderthals and is currently among the league leaders. In Week 7 he went undefeated in in 3 starts, recording 2 wins over 23 innings. His WHIP was a minuscule 0.70 and he turned in a 14/3 K/BB ratio.
All Star Spotlight - Which Team Has the Edge?
Interestingly enough, the results of the ATB all star game will determine home field advantage for the World Series in Bud Selig's MLB league.
Which ATB team will win though? With some of the great records in the Harry Caray league, I automatically assumed they had the best high end players, but this is not the case.
LINEUP: HC has the edge in power, but VS easily outpaces them in OBP which normally results in more runs being scored. EDGE: VS
ROTATION: While VS has the better ERA, the underlying stats of HC are a bit better. Better WHIP and better RCERA. SLIGHT EDGE: HC
BULLPEN: Call it even. Both bullpens are stellar, and the big difference in ERA is mostly dumb luck. EVEN.
BENCH: Here, HC does have a significant advantage as a 50 point lead in slugging trumps a 10 point lead in on base percentage.
The match-up appears even, with the key to the series falling on the battle between the Haray Carry Pitchers and the Vin Scully offense.
