Joss on the hill, Lakewood easily could have lost and work up this morning down 3 games to 1. Instead, they found a way to win behind Kevin
Millwood, he of the 4.65 ERA during the regular season. The right
hander was very effective and when combined with yet another great game from Heavy Johnson (.529 AVG with 7 RBI this series),
Lakeview took the win in a 3-1 nail biter. This was a similar story to game 1 where the same two Zeros led the way for a 6-3 victory.
Tonight, Larry
Dierker will take the mound for
Lakeview in a rematch against John Tudor. Taking over for
Maddux in game 2,
Dierker was effective for much before yielding runs in the 7th, while Tudor pitched 6 innings of 3 run ball and did not factor in the decision. Perhaps incredibly, the two best relievers of the post season, Red Ryan and Dennis
Eckersley, each got tagged with a blown save in game 2.
Finally, a star on each squad has yet to make his presence felt. For
Ankhana, it is Frank Robinson who has struggled to the tune of a .176 / .176 / .294 slash line. The right fielder was a vital cog to
Ankhana's success in the regular season, providing power (34 HR) and the ability to produce runs (118 RBI). Similarly, the Zeros King Kelly was among the best catchers in the game for much of the season, but is only 1-16 this World Series. Both have to pick up their game to give their squads a chance at the title.
