Standings Summary - Week 8

Is it too early to declare winners in the Mossback Division? No, I don't think so. We turned the clock to August in Sim time this week and the Lusitania Death Speakers, after another great week at 11-4, has opened up an 8 game lead for the division title. Not insurmountable, but it would take a historic run for another team in the division to catch up.

Similarly, the Wild Card Race in the Mossback appears to be over as well. The Dumai's Wells Oathbinders, San Diego Puff, and John McDonald Fanclub have battled for the three wild card slots for two months now. However, since the self destruction of the Downsouth Brews, no team has challenged and the closest competitor is 9.5 games out of the last wild card opening. Perhaps it will be interesting to see which of the three teams finishes last between themselves. This would be unwelcome as the lucky loser would have to face the best team in ATB in the first round.

It is a completely different story in the Greenhorn Division. Here, we have tight races for both the division title and Wild Card. The Sonoran Black Diamonds won 9 of 13 in Week 8, opening up a moderate 1.5 game lead on the DC Chips. This standings chart shows the race quite nicely, these two teams may be mortal enemies by the time the season ends.

The Chips and Helena Handbasket have all but secured a Wild Card slot (but still obviously have a shot at the division title), leaving the 4th playoff position still in contention. The Rochester Beau Brummels are 5 games behind Handbasket, but just 1.5 games up on Bostons Terrier. Don't count out Big Mac Special Sauce, just 3.5 games out, nor the Eugene Psycho Llamas at 5 games out.

Curiously, since July 1st, none of these last few teams have played well:

14-16: Rochester
14-18: Bostons
14-15: Eugene
11-21: Big Mac

A single stretch of 15 games by any of these teams will vault them into an solid lead for the last wild card opening.
