Roe completes series comeback, Gossamers win 4-1

ALDS Game 7
Sparta Hoplites @ Gold Country Gossamers

The series that should have been a sweep in favor of the Sparta Hoplites turned sour as Preacher Roe out dueled John Denny in the seventh game of the ALCS.  Roe tossed 8 innings of 1 run ball and the Gossamer offense provide 4 runs on 10 hits in the 4-1 victory.

Denny struggled in the second, allowing 3 consecutive singles to Ross Youngs, Cupid Childs, and Harry Walker.  Youngs scored and one out later Childs was thrown out at home after a 4th single.  An inning later the Gossamer struck twice more on 2 additional singles, a HBP, and 5-pitch walk.

The Hoplites lone run was thanks to a Babe Herman solo shot in the 6th, but the team did have a few chances throughout the game.  Joe Jackson doubled in the third and tried for home when the next batter Ed Delahanty roped a single to center, but Tris Speaker gunned him down at the plate.

In the fourth Derek Lee led off and singled but was thrown out at second trying to steal a few minutes later.  The loss of the runner was crucial as the next to batters reached base on a walk and a single.  This threat ended quickly too when Cy Seymour grounded into a double play.

Gold Country moves on to play their intra-division rival Bertrand Island Carnies tomorrow night.
