Top of the Line New Players Start out Hot

John J of the Brooklyn Cyclones started a trend, taking 2015 Zach Grienke at the end of the 2nd round.  A few picks later, Lou P selected 2015 Jake Arrieta for his Hockenberry squad.  Not be outdone, Spanish Harlem jumped on 2015 Bryce Harper early in the 4th.

Each of these were high risk propositions, as players such as Addie Joss, Babe Adams, and Roger Clemens were still available to Brooklyn and Hockenberry, and Justin P had several established players available to him as well, such as Fred Carroll, Billy Hamilton, Benny Kauff, an Willie Stargell.

While much too early to draw any conclusions, each owner must be pleased with their selections.

  • Harper has started all 7 games and has a .900 OPS, leading the Beaters in home runs and RBI
  • Greinke, while not able to record a win, has 2 Quality Starts, a 0.96 WHIP, and a 2.04 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched.
  • Arrieta has been even better, winning both starts and giving up just 2 earned runs and 9 hits over his 15 innings of work.  Opponents are batting .140 off of him.

On the other hand, Dizzy Dean has a 0.60 ERA and Rod Carew a .515 OBP - it is most definitely early!
