The NL Wild Card Race

We can hope he NL Wild Card Race may come down to the last week of the season.  As of today, 5 teams within 2.5 games of each other are vying for the last playoff spot.

For the past several months the Sparta Hoplites have sported the best Run Differential of the contenders and have held all challengers at bay.  With the Wild Card lead plus a good differential, they must be considered the clear favorites.

Next in line is likely Rusty Kuntz - just 2 games out and with an RD similar to Sparta, this is a quality team.  To make things very interesting, the schedule makers saw fit to end the year with a 4 game set between these to teams, the final series will be played at  Sparta.

Elsewhere, Riverside is in 2nd despite a negative 20 run differential.  They end the season against another contender, Brawley, who have played almost exactly .500, both in W-L record and RD.

The last contender is arguably the worst team of the bunch.  Imre is 2 games below .500 and have the worst RD out of the five, but they also have a very favorable home/road schedule and finish the season against non-contenders.
