20 Resims: #17 Planet 10 Red Lectroids

At the end of each season owners may submit a new lineup that is used in the 20 Resim competition.  This competition is purely for speculation and is used as a gauge to determine who had the best draft.  The true ATB champion remains the World Series winner.

20 seasons are automatically simulated and compiled.  No lineup changes are allowed and injuries are turned off.  Through a formula that considers Win-Loss record, Playoff Appearances, and Pythagorean Record the teams are ranked in order from worst to first.

Special thanks to Justin B who provided the formula and methodology behind the raw park OPS values, which provides a new way to interpret park factors.

Ivar’s Planet 10 Red Lectroids had winning seasons in seven of the 20 resims and a max win potential of 95 games (723 runs scored in sim 4, 636 runs against in sim 1); they are also our first team to make the playoffs more than once.

With a few modifications to a handful of draft picks this team could have competed on a regular basis.  Jeff Bagwell (below), Joe DiMaggio, Willie Keeler, Charlie Keller, and Javy Lopez are all fine batters to build an offense around.

Bret Saberhagen, Cy Young, and Mike Scott are all legitimate starters and the relief corps was better then the league average.

However, Nels Potter can’t be the third starter drafted and if one wants a third basemen early, it’s best to nab one of the big 4 in George Brett, Eddie Mathews, John McGraw and perhaps now, Mike Schmidt.  Selecting Alex Rodriguez (.223 / .303 / .396) in Round 4 just doesn’t provide enough return with players like Albert Pujols, Frank Thomas, Jim Thome, or Bill Terry still unselected.

Still, I liked this team and with a break or two, could have made in the playoffs on three additional occasions.
