Day 3

American League

  • Chris Carpenter pitched a gem and Robin Ventura knocked in three, giving Spanish Harlem an easy 8-1 win over Dharma.
  • Oasis survives a poor start from #1 pick Nip Winters, coming from behind to beat Downsouth 7-6.  Heinie Zimmerman's pinch hit 2-run blast tied it in the 8th, and a costly error by Brews shorstop George Davis helped Oasis win it in the 9th.
  • Denver's game plan is executed perfectly.  Jose Rijo with a solid 7 innings, Jim Konstanty with the hold, and Ted Abernathy securing the save in a 3-1 defeat of Helena.
  • Brandon Webb's 5 hit shutout makes Willets Point the only remaining undefeated American League team. The 3-0 loss is Brooklyn's third in as many games and they have been outscored 23-10.
  • Hudson knocked Ankhana starter Fergie Jenkins out of the game in the second en route to 6-3 victory.  Derrek Lee homered in MadBum's first win of the season.
  • Rochester puts up 2's in three different innings, besting New Orleans 6-5.  Ralph Kiner homered and drove in 2.
National League
  • Hoboken gives up just a run in their second consecutive game, easily getting past Grumman 6-1.  Christy Mathewson looked great, completing the game and yieleding 1 run on 4 hits and a walk.
  • Chatanooga notches their first win of the season in a 5-2 victory over Galaxy.  Starer Johan Santana was effective and Wade Boggs homered.
  • Panic in Sparta?  With a 5-1 loss to Jeff City, the Hoplites are 0-3 and have not looked good scoring just 5 runs on the season.  The Blausers on the other hand, are cruising at 3-0.  On this day Rickey Henderson and Todd Hundly homered in the win.
  • Flin Flon also moves to 3-0, holding off a late charge from Shamokin to win 8-7.  Wally Berger became the second on the season with a 7 RBI night.  He belted two home runs and drove in runners in each of his other two at bats.
  • Home runs from Duke Snider and Nap Lajoie help Albequerque coast to a 8-2 win over Planet 10.
  • Seattle's Roger Clemens makes a bid for a no hitter, but Ken Singleton broke it up in the 8th.  Clemens was still brilliant, giving just a hit and a walk in a 4-0 shutout of Lakeview.
