Week 1 Standings Summary

The Denver Roid Boyz took the AL by storm in week 1, jumping out to a 10-4 start thanks to a well rounded attack that was just about unstoppable.  Closer Ted Abernathy has given up just 1 hit and 2 walks in his 7 games while starters Jose Rijo and Mike Scott are a combined 4-0 with a 1.79 WHIP (41.2 IP, 28 H, 12 BB, 30 K).  Offensively, Jeff Bagwell leads ATB in RBI at 17, thanks to 9 extra base hits including four home runs.  Heavy Johnson is off to a hot start too, recording a 1.111 OPS in 58 plate appearances.  The Roidboyz rolled off 7 wins in a row at one point, sweeping Oasis and taking 3 of 4 from Helena.

Over in the National League, one of the new franchises, Jeff City is off to the league's best start at 9-3.  The Blausers swept Sparta and took 2 of 3 from Albequerque, Seattle, and Flin Flon thanks to a pitching staff that recorded a team ERA of just 2.93.  Curt Schilling, Dwight Gooden, and Hugh Daily have combined for 53 innings, 33 hits, and 34 strikeouts.  Their offense has been spotty (.227 / .274 / .351) but John McGraw (.391 OBP) and Rickey Henderson (1.002 OPS) have kept them in games.

Finally, i have to spotlight this game between MadBum and the Clown Punchers on April 8th.  Apparently, with runners on 1st and 2nd in the first, MadBum starter Teddy Higuera plunked Jim Edmonds with a  fastball and the center fielder did not take kindly to it.  As far as we can tell, Edmonds charged the mound and bench clearing brawl ensued.  Both he and Higuera were ejected, but worse yet, Higuera was injured for 25 games and the Clown Punchers lost Jim Gentile for 2 weeks and Fred Clarke for 3 days.
