Pete Reiser: 4/ltp.2x2(4);1x1(43)

4/ltp.2x2(4);1x1(43)

I think that is the first time I've noticed "ltp" in the scoresheet section of one of our box scores.  For the uninitiated, that stands for Lined into Triple Play.  Here's what happened to Pistol Pete on April 27th.

Down by a run to the Spiders, the Zero's looked ready to put up a crooked number in the top half the 7th when a walk and two singles plated a run to tie the game and put runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out.

Reiser strode the plate and lined the 3-2 offering from Scott Downs directly at the Spiders second basemen, Bret Boone.

  • Boone caught it - 4/ltp.2x2(4);1x1(43)
  • Stepped on second catching Bill Terry off the bag - 4/ltp.2x2(4);1x1(43)
  • and tossed it to Jack Clark at first before Roberto Clemente made it back to the bag himself - 4/ltp.2x2(4);1x1(43)

The play was arguably a game winner, as the Spiders went on to win by two.
