LDS Game 2's Complete

San Diego 5, Lusitania 2
The Puff knot the series at 1 a piece in large part due to a 4 run outburst in the Top of the 5th. Down 2-0 and with Lusitania starter Kevin Millwood throwing well, shortstop Cal Ripken led off with a single to right. After recording an out Millwood walked 9th place hitter Sherry Magee and proceeded to give up back to back run scoring singles to Ty Cobb and Frank Baker.

JJ Putz entered in relief walked George Sisler, recorded an out, and then walked in 2 more runs. When the dust cleared, the Puff had a 4-2 lead.

Starters Lines:
- Millwood: 4.1 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
- Melton: 3.2 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Notes:
- Magglio Ordonez (LDS) double twice
- Ty Cobb (SDP) went 4-4 with double and 2 runs.

Dumai's Wells 9, John McDonald 4
With a 5 run first the game was almost never in doubt. Tex Hughson was knocked from the game after 2 outs and 33 pitches, having given up 5 runs, the most crucial a 3-run blast by John Oldlerud.

The closest John McDonald got was 7-3 in the 4th after a Luis Gonzalez bomb.

Starters Lines
- Hughson: .2 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
- Brecheen: 4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Notes:
- John Olerud (DWO) went 2-5, with a double, homer and 5 RBI
- Luis Gonzalez (JMF) had three hits, 2 homers, and 3 RBI
- The DWO pen: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R


DC 10, Big Mac 3
The heart of the DC order collected 12 hits and drove in 10 runs for the DC victory. With a 4-0 lead heading into the 6th, DC put the game out of reach with a 4-run inning, highlighted by Eddie Mathews 2-run triple.

All of Big Mac's 3 runs came in the 7th when Mark McGwire and Darren Daulten homered.

Ben Sheets: 5.1 IP, 10 H, 6 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
Mike Scott: 6.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Notes:
- Big Mac loses arguably their best hitter, Mike Tiernan for 14 games.
- Jack Quinn (BMS) was awful - 2 IP, 5 H, 4 R
- Johnny Mize (DC) had 3 hits and 3 RBI

Helena 6, Sonoran 2
Teddy Higuera kept the Black Diamonds at bay giving up 8 hist and 2 runs over 8 innings. Helena also spread the offense around, with 6 different batters accounting for their 6 team RBI. They scored their runs in 2 bunches - 3 in the 6th on 4 hits and stolen base, and 3 more in the 9th, thanks in part to a Black Diamond error.

The win aside, the biggest news of the night was a 3 game injury to Barry Bonds, suffered after running out his 8th inning single.

- Carpenter: 8 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 6 K

Notes:
- Mickey Mantle, Buddy Bell, and Ivan Rodriguez each hat 2 hits and an RBI for Helena
- Jim Gentile (SBD) homered in the loss
