By all rights the Hoplites outplayed Fanclub, but a minor injury forced Kevin Brown from the game in 3rd, allowing the visitors to break the game open on an Albert Belle home run.  Edgar Martinez almost single handedly brought the Hoplites back, homering in 4th, singling in the game tying run in the 8th, and leading off the bottom of the 11th with a double, and scoring 2 batters later.

From 5th inning onwards, the much heralded Hoplite pen lived up to their billing, giving up just 1 hit and walking none in the final 6 frames.

Paul Derringer was a late scratch with Don Newcombe getting the nod to start from owner Jason B earlier in the day.

Starters
Newcombe - 7.1 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Brown - 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K - left with injury
