Barnstormers 6 spot in 2nd holds up; win 7-5 to take lead 2-0

Game 2 (3 vs 7)

Stoughton Storm @ Clover Bottom Barnstormers

In Game 2, the Clover Bottom Barnstormers exploded for 6 runs in the 2nd inning and never looked back, defeating the Stoughton Storm 7-5.  Starter David Cone struggled, giving up 5 runs in as many innings, but Eddie Collins and the offense were more than a match for Stoughton starter, Roger Clemens.

"The Rocket" struck out Joe Kelley to start the second but ran in trouble immediately thereafter.  Back to Back to Back hits from Duke Snider, Cap Anson, and Don Mattingly scored two runs.  After retiring Donnie Bush for the second out, Clemens hit a wall yielding two more hits, a walk, and wasn't helped from an error by Anson.  When the dust settled, 5 runs scored and Clemens was on the bench.  Bill Henry relieved him, but Kelley slapped yet another hit and the score was 6-1.

The Storm fought back, scoring 3 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th on home runs by Steve Nicholson and Jim Thome, but couldn't put any rally's together for the rest of the game.  They were in fact, held hitless, after Thome's lead off home run in the 6th.
