In another 13 inning thriller, Alex Rodriquez wins it for the Storm with single

Game  (2 vs 7)

Bertrand Island Carnies @ Stoughton Storm

In a second thirteen inning affair in as many nights, the Stoughton Storm advance to Round 2 of the 1st Annual Tournament of Champions, defeating the Bertrand Island Carnies 5-4.  It was an ugly affair that featured 24 hits and an incredible 8 errors.  27 men were left on base and a total of 38 players saw action.

Both teams traded single run innings on and off through the 7th.  The Carnies Fred Carroll along with the Storm's Fred Nicholson and Ken Caminiti each homered, and heading to the 8th the game was tied at 3-3.

Neither team threatened again until the 10th, when Frank Thomas tried to score from second on a Doyle Alexander single.  For a moment it looked like a copy of Game 6, but a great throw from the left fielder Nicholson just caught Thomas as he slid into home.

Even so, the Carnie's threatened again in the 11th, scoring a run when Ty Cobb singled home Charlie Hollacher.  Hollocher reached first earlier on an error by second basemen Dick McAuliffe and scored on bad play by the Nicholson in left.  A walk later and the Carnies were on the verge of going up by two, Ned Williamson grounded out to short.

Arnie Stone came in to relieve Clay Buchholz but he didn't do his job.  Ryan Braun, who entered the game in the 9th as a pinch hitter, took a first pitch fastball over the left field fence to tie the game.

Both teams went scoreless in the 12th and after a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 13th, the Storm won the game on an Alex Rodriguez single to short left field.   Jim Thome had walked to start the inning, but two outs and another walk later, Zack Greinke threw bad pitch to start off A-Rod , ending the game.

Bill Foster was named series MVP, starting three games and giving up just 6 runs (2.61 ERA).  He walked three against 14 strikeouts.

Starting Pitchers
